How to Perform Maintenance Checks on Hydraulic Breakers

Hydraulic breaker seal kit

As we all know, seal kits play an important part in every component. Here are some tips to help you check your hydraulic breakers.

Thorough Inspection: Before storing the hydraulic breaker, it's crucial to conduct a comprehensive safety check. This involves examining the breaker for any malfunctions, loose screws, and ensuring the entire unit is clean.

Seal Replacement: Replacing the rod seal is essential to prevent impurities from contaminating the hydraulic system. A broken seal kit will result in noticeable oil leakage and potentially insufficient operating pressure due to internal leakage. For small hydraulic breakers, seal kits should be replaced approximately every 500 hours of work, while large breakers require replacement between 300-400 hours. During seal kit replacement, particular attention should be given to cleaning, especially in colder weather when sealing performance may be compromised.

Placement Precautions: Hydraulic breakers should be stored in a dry indoor environment to avoid prolonged exposure to humidity, salt, alkali, or dust. To prevent rainwater ingress, the rear cylinder should be elevated, preferably in a low humidity room. If not in use for an extended period, nitrogen should be vented and the piston pushed into the middle cylinder using the drill rod.

Continuous Maintenance: Given the harsh working conditions of hydraulic breakers, regular maintenance is essential. After removing the demolition chisel, it's important to consistently check the wear of components such as bushings, through bolts in the lower cylinder, piston, drill rod striking surface, chisel, and inner jacket.

After the breaker is no longer in use, careful attention must be paid to its storage as prolonged periods of inactivity can lead to damage. Different parts of the breaker may encounter distinct issues, necessitating scientific and systematic inspections based on engineers' recommendations. This proactive approach allows for the timely replacement of worn components, preventing larger problems and ensuring the safe operation of the breaker.
