Types of Seals Used in Hydraulic Cylinders
Selecting the appropriate seal is critical for ensuring effective sealing in hydraulic cylinders. Seals play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of hydraulic fluid or gas within the cylinder's piston system across various industrial applications.
1.Piston Seal:
Located between the piston and cylinder wall, piston seals prevent leakage of the working media. They enhance pneumatic cylinder efficiency by ensuring a reliable sealing effect under different operating conditions. The effectiveness of piston seals depends on factors such as sliding capabilities, deformability, and wear resistance.
2.Rod Seal:
Installed between the piston rod and cylinder end cap, rod seals prevent leakage of the working medium. Besides sealing, they require good slidability, deformability, and resistance to dust to support normal hydraulic cylinder operation.
3.Wear Ring:
Positioned within the cylinder barrel, wear rings maintain a specific clearance with the piston's outer surface. They guide the piston's radial movement, reducing lateral wobbling and enhancing motion precision. Choosing the right wear rings minimizes friction losses and extends the cylinder's lifespan.
4.Dust Seal:
Dust seals not only filter out dust but also balance sealing, wiping, deformability, and compatibility with lubrication. Their effective implementation prolongs the service life of hydraulic cylinders by preventing dust ingress.
5.Buffer Seal:
Buffer seals, located at both ends of the cylinder barrel, absorb shock and cushion the impact when the piston moves at high speeds. They contribute to leakage prevention and enhance the cylinder's operational stability.
6.O-rings:
Among the most widely used seals, O-rings are circular in shape and made from rubber or elastomeric materials. They provide effective sealing through compression in hydraulic cylinder applications. We manufacture and export O-rings for more than 10 years, we supply different types of o-rings for you to choose. For D85ex-15r Bulldozer, we supply like 702-21-55880 O Ring . For excavator parts, we also supply like ZD12G08000 for SK200-8.
7.U-cups:
U-cup seals feature a U-shaped profile that offers flexibility in compression, making them suitable for high-pressure sealing applications in hydraulic cylinders.
8.V-rings:
With a V-shaped cross-section, V-ring seals provide a larger sealing surface area compared to O-rings. This configuration improves sealing performance in hydraulic systems.
9.Composite Material Seals:
These seals combine rubber compounds with fabric reinforcement, offering excellent heat resistance and durability in hydraulic systems.
10.Metal Seals:
Made from stainless steel or alloys, metal seals provide high rigidity and are ideal for high-speed, high-temperature hydraulic sealing applications.
Choosing the right type of seal is essential for optimizing the performance, longevity, and efficiency of hydraulic cylinders across diverse industrial settings.
